1

You Have a Special past with Them

Of course the first question you want to ask when you are choosing your bridesmaids is if they are special to you in your life. You don’t want to choose someone who you don’t feel has had a special place in your life. Each bridesmaid needs to be someone who has or will have an impact on your life as a single or a married person. If you have fond memories of this person, you are on the right path. A bridesmaid you share a history with can greatly enrich your wedding.

2

If They Are Close to You

You may want to choose someone who is close to you now. It could be friends, family or future in-laws. It is best not to choose people out of obligation. Choose those that you truly feel close to. If you don’t, you will have to endure a lot of awkward moments.

3

If They Are Agreeable

Of course, the women you are choosing should be agreeable to being a bridesmaid. If they aren’t interested, don’t take it personally. It is a decision that they are making for themselves. It may be because they may not want to be a part of a public wedding or they might just prefer to be a guest. It is good to have some back up choices in mind in case this occurs.

4

If They Are Kind

Don’t choose unkind people to be your bridesmaids. It doesn’t matter if they are someone everyone is telling you to choose. You need to be surrounded by a circle of loving people on your wedding day and that includes your bridesmaids. If someone is not kind to you, mark them off the list. It is better to have fewer attendants than the wrong ones.

5

If They Can Afford It

Another angle to consider is if the person you are thinking of asking can afford it. Being a bridesmaid does include some costs. If you know that the person you are considering is going through a financial tight spot, you may want to think of someone else. Or if you decide to ask, explain that you would love to have them be part of your wedding but you don’t want to make things financially difficult on them. Then they can make the decision that is best for them.

If They Want to

Some women love to be bridesmaids. They enjoy being close to the bride and helping her through the whole wedding process. They will be a bridesmaid every opportunity that they get. But some people are not like that. That is okay and should be completely up to that individual.

7

If You Want Them to Be a Part of Your Wedding Memories

Something else to consider is if you want this person to be a part of your wedding memories. You want to look back on your wedding pictures and be happy. You don’t want to be thinking about why you may have chosen the bridesmaids that you did. Usually, you want to go with people who you know are going to be in your life for some time to come. In other words, you don’t want to choose a co-worker you just began working with a month ago.

In choosing your bridesmaids, there are a lot of factors to consider. Which of these points is most helpful to you? Feel free to share and comment here!
