Yours Truly Media on Creating a Safe Environment at Your Wedding Amidst COVID-19 ...

Thanks to COVID-19, the wedding industry has been thrown for a loop. Even more important, weddings as we know them are a thing of the past — at least for the time being. However, that doesn’t mean that hosting a wedding and celebrating your love isn’t possible. It just means that you will have to take a few extra safety precautions if you plan on throwing a wedding amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

As with all wedding industry professionals, Yours Truly Media, a wedding photography and videography company based in California, is learning how to adapt their services in order to ensure the safety of the couple and their guests throughout the wedding. Below, Yours Truly Media shares a few tips on how to create a safe environment at your wedding during COVID-19.

1. Rethink the Guest List

There’s no denying the fact that the smaller the guest count, the less at-risk you and your guests will be. According to Yours Truly Media, “micro weddings” (that is, small, intimate gatherings of less than 50 people) were already trending pre-COVID-19 and they think this trend will continue. Now more than ever, couples are realizing that the most important thing is their health and happiness. Thus, weddings that happen amidst COVID-19 are likely going to be much smaller than the grand affairs of the past. Where 150 people or more was a very common guest count, COVID-19 is going to see those numbers fall below 100, possibly even less in certain hard-hit regions.

2. Provide Guests with Hand Sanitizer

There’s no getting around it, you’re going to need to come up with a hand sanitizing option for those at your wedding. It’s inevitable at this type of event that people will hug or shake hands, so, the best thing couples can do is accept this and then plan for a way to disperse cleaning products so their guests can regularly disinfect their hands. If you’re on a budget and if such cleaning solutions aren’t being provided by the venue, Yours Truly Media recommends making hand sanitizer, masks, or gloves your wedding favor. Perhaps even have the bottles of hand sanitizer customized with your initials. Make the best of it!

3. Space out Your Seating Chart

When creating your seating chart in the post-COVID-19 landscape, Yours Truly Media urges couples to consider spacing out guests more than they would have in the past. Although a table may have previously sat eight to ten people, they recommend reducing that to maybe four or six people at the most. In addition, spacing tables farther apart is also a good idea when it comes to health and safety. Be sure to take into account this extra space when you decide on a wedding venue. Even though a banquet hall might say it seats 300, that was likely their capacity before social distancing became the norm. In the current climate, you will need to search for a venue that has at least 1.5 times, if not twice as much space as you needed originally.

4. Consider an Outdoor Venue, Says Yours Truly Media

Scientists have repeatedly stated that indoor environments are riskier than outdoor environments when it comes to the spread of the virus. With this in mind, Yours Truly Media is advising all couples to consider hosting their ceremony and reception outdoors, if possible. It might mean you have to change the date of the wedding, but ultimately, it could be worth it. There has been a trend among venues to offer more outdoor spaces as of late, so no matter where you live, there are likely at least a handful of venues with outdoor options. Ultimately, air flow is important when it comes to COVID-19, and hosting your wedding outdoors is one way to help make your wedding safer.
