Take Time to Enjoy Your Engagement before Diving into the Planning...

Being engaged to the love of your life should be the most joyful experience ever and it should be embraced. Before heading to the magazine stands and flipping through hundreds of pages of wedding dresses, flowers and venues, take a few weeks to not worry about the planning of the wedding. You’ll learn to appreciate your love for each other more. Trust me; there will be plenty of time for planning!

2

Don’t Be Surprised if He Wants to Help with Parts of the Wedding....

This one shocked me when I got engaged. My fiancé really wanted to help pick out the venue, reception hall, photographer; he even had picture ideas for save-the-dates and what he wanted all of the groomsmen guys to wear on the big day. These ideas might not be the dream ideas you had planned but keep in mind that the wedding day is for both of you. Let him add his personal touch into the big day. It will look like both of you, rather than just the bride or just the groom’s style.

When Thinking about when to Have Your Wedding, Consider Your Budget...

I had always imagined myself getting married in the fall but when I got engaged in December, I knew I wanted to be engaged at least a year but I thought more than a year and a half was pushing it. We scheduled a date for February and it couldn’t have been a better idea! Not only are vendors available because winter is their slow season, but it is also much easier to negotiate them down to a price that fits your budget. If you’re trying to stay reasonable, winter weddings are the way to go because they want your business.

4

Stay Organized...

When you do start planning your wedding, keep everything in a certain area where you know you’ll be able to find it. This will lower your stress level significantly. I bought a large three ring binder and page protectors and organized everything in there. That way when I wanted to look for a brochure I received or a business card I had, I knew right where to find it. This might not work for everyone but I also bought a big tote box and kept all my magazines, pictures, thank you cards, and anything else momentous in there so I knew just right where to look.

Don’t Forget the Reason You’re Getting Married...

Wedding planning can be stressful. Soon the small wedding you envisioned with close family and friends could turn out to be this huge wedding you never expected. There is most likely going to be opinions coming at you from all angles too. In some instances, both families want to be involved and before you know it, you’re trying to make everyone else happy and not thinking about what you and your significant other want. Before you start stressing about all the details of the wedding though, remember the reason for the day. At the end of the big day that you’re spending all this time planning for, you’re married to the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. It’s not going to matter what the color of the groomsmen’s shirts were or whether there was a flower toss or if chicken was served rather than steak. What matters is that you and your other made it through that day and you can begin life together the way you want it to look like.

We are so excited for Erin and her husband-to-be, we hope they have the most romantic wedding day and wish them nothing but love, laughter, and happily ever after. We hope her wedding planning tips **are helpful in remembering to take time to enjoy your engagement, letting your groom help with the plans, thinking about your budget, staying organized, and to not get caught up in all the details because no matter what falls through in your **wedding planning this day is about the two people saying "I Do".
