1

DIY

If you’re a crafty person, spend some time doing DIY crafts for your big day. If you’re not very crafty, enlist a couple of your craftier friends to help you out. You can do your own ceremony and reception decorations, as well as baking your own desserts. It’s one of the best ways to save money on your wedding, because it adds a personal touch to your wedding. Plus, the better you and the people you enlist to help are at crafting, the better your wedding will look!

2

Give Yourself Time

The more time you give yourself in the planning department, the more money you’ll save. Get on email lists and wait for special sales and deals, and you’ll save so much money. If you plan a wedding very quickly, you’ll miss out on all of the different sales and specials that are offered throughout the year.

3

Sample Sales

Sample sales and discounted dress stores are awesome ways to save money on your wedding. You can find the most sought after dresses for a fraction of the price. If you’ve found your dream dress but it’s incredibly expensive, do some more research to find it discounted or at a sample sale and your problems may be solved!

4

Choose a Different Day

Getting married on any day but Saturday has actually become more and more common recently. Don’t feel like you have to get married on a Saturday simply because it’s what you’re supposed to do! It will save you so much money, because ceremony and reception venues cost a small percentage of what they do on Saturdays. In the end, the simple act of getting married on a day that isn’t Saturday will save you so much money that you won’t care that it’s not typically what everyone else does.

5

Centerpieces

Centerpieces can be one of the most expensive parts of a wedding, especially if you’re planning a big wedding. A lot of florists and supermarkets will sell you the cut flowers to assemble yourself, and it’s a simple way to save a lot of money. Test out a centerpiece or two beforehand to figure out what you like, but if you do test it and love the outcome, go for it!

Famous Quotes

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

Skip the Flowers

Although it often seems like it, flowers aren’t the only form of decoration at a wedding. It’s actually more in style now than ever to decorate a wedding with lanterns, twinkle lights, and candles. These can all be found for a fraction of the price of flowers online. Cut out the flowers in the nonessential decorations, and keep them in the bouquets and centerpieces. If you want to go this far, there are even options to cut the flowers out of the bouquets and centerpieces and go non-floral routes!

7

Cut the Guest List

The most expensive portion of most weddings comes from the guest list. The average per plate cost is around $50, and that’s on the low end. If you cut down the guest list, you could save thousands of dollars. Cut the people you haven’t spoken to in years but feel obligated to invite, and you’ll save yourself so much money.

8

Be the DJ

Thanks to the smartphone, it’s easier than ever to be your own DJ at your wedding. There are seemingly endless DJ apps that help you save money on your wedding. Rather than spending at least $200 on a DJ, buy an app for $2.99, plug in your iPod or iPhone, and get your party started!

9

Ask around

One of the most important things you can do when planning your wedding is to ask your friends and family if they know anyone who can help. Maybe your cousin knows someone who can make the cake for a fraction of the price, or maybe your best friend’s mother is a wedding planner who will help you out. If you can find even one person who will help you out, maybe just because they want to, or maybe as your wedding gift, you will save so much money.

I though same way too about DJ part. It just sounds "a little too cheap to me"

Don't know about the DJ bit...my brother got married a couple months ago and they had planned on simply plugging in their iPod as well. I wanted them to have a nice wedding, so I hired a DJ for them and he saved them so much trouble. Your DJ is like your host. He choreographs the whole evening and keeps everything flowing smoothly and takes a lot of pressure off. If this is your first wedding, the preparation is only half of the stress. Your DJ knows what he's doing. Weddings are his job. In the case of my brother's wedding, his DJ brought in more money than he even charged for his services just by suggesting ideas like a money tree and a money dance and other things the bride and groom had never even thought of.

If you want to save money, book a DJ but ask for no frills. 50% of what you're paying for is the light show and the subwoofer, which you're probably not going to miss if you are happy with your own lighting and decorating anyway.
